Wait, don't rush into a judgment that I am way too dumb not to have known about this meaning of MILF. I wasn't porn, er, born yesterday!
Funny story, speaking of MILF in that meaning. About two years ago, when I blogged about this advice from a famous American personality on why young men should date older women, one student came to class and announced, before we got going, something like "Dr. Khé wants young men to go after MILF." As one can imagine, it was one heck of a strangely humorous situation, especially when one student innocently asked what MILF meant. But, hey, he had read my blog post!
Anyway, the ignorance was about this MILF, which I read about in the Economist. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the Philippines:
The southern region of Mindanao is home to most of the predominantly Catholic country’s Muslim minority. The MILF is the most important in a range of armed groups that have been fighting for independence for the majority-Muslim areas. After 18 years of negotiations, often interrupted by heavy fighting, the government and the MILF concluded the last and most crucial part of a four-part peace agreement on January 25th.Aha, MILF! The Economist adds:
Peace between the MILF and the government is one thing; peace in Mindanao is another.From a cursory reading of Wikipedia, it appears that the group was in existence before the more familiar MILF got added into the colorful vocabulary.
So, I didn't know about this MILF. Or about the green thingy that I used in the flowers. I don't care. Because, I got a lovely email from an old friend--yes, female, of course!--in which she writes:

Unless she was being sarcastic and I am too dumb to know the difference between praise and sarcasm ;)

The pox on the MILF. Every motley group that is fighting for independence must be sent to purgatory. We have enough countries in the world thank you and we don't want more. We should be moving in the opposite direction and have one global country.
Every idiotic group thinks that carving out a separate country is a one way ticket to heaven. Nonsense. Its simply an opportunity for a new set of politicians to exercise power and make money. Witness the recent countries that have all been "liberated" - South Sudan, East Timor, and if you go a little earlier - Yugoslavian breakups, even the Indian subcontinent. In every case they would have all been better off as one country instead of these fragments. And the idiotic Scots (ha ha ha) want to secede from the UK. What angers me even more is that the bleeding heart loony Left encourages all this nonsense.

Yes, it is crazy, right, that these countries want to break up into fragments, as if that is the only one that will lead them to peace and prosperity. And when the background is one of higher and higher levels of interconnectedness--economic, social, technological, ...
Of course the loony left encourages this--usually the lefties who encourage all these do not have any personal fortunes at stake. (Or, like Chomsky has done, they have amassed a fortune by selling their wares--I guess they do understand capitalism better!!!) So, who cares if later everything goes kaput, right? Other than the truly idealistic left like the old EMS Namboodripad, rare is a uber-left who comes to it with wealth and ends up giving it all away and to lead a simple life. Especially during my commie youth days, I was so impressed by how EMS lived his ideals, unlike the rest of the politicians of all stripes who stole from the people any which way they could.
There is a huge difference between fighting for the rights of the oppressed, which I strongly believe in, versus claiming that creating a country of their own is the panacea ... oh well ...
All that is missing in our serious pontificating: tea in a glass from Balan tea kadai ;)
And, oh, don't you go dissing my female friends,when you--as a male--are in the minority among my friends .... hahaha ;)
