My worry is about how the technologists systematically design products (apps) that are meant to trap the users in that world--the crazy addiction that is similar to how the gamblers are with slot machines.

Yes, come on over, Ramesh. You are the only one outside this area. I will keep ready for you all the Soylent you can have, while I will make for myself tasty foods ;)Sriram Khéhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06724218458246880137noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27946614.post-3818944618860000062016-02-09T21:38:16.185-08:002016-02-09T21:38:16.185-08:00Yes, yes, organize a meeting. I'll provide the whole meal.

I don't worry so much about those over the age of 40, though I know some folks who seem to spend an inordinate amount of time on their phones doing who knows what. I proudly embracing the title of Luddite (I had to look it up the first time I read it in your blog). I finally caved and got a smart phone, but I don't like it. I don't even know if it has any games on it. It could be a huge time-waster and distraction, but I rule my phone, not vice versa.

I do worry about those younger though. My kids and their friends prefer to "converse" via text for 30 or more minutes rather than accomplishing the same thing in a three minute phone call. There does seem to be a lot of face time, which is sort of face-to-face communication, but barely.

All communication seems stunted, not just face to face. They won't call someone to ask a question, preferring to send an email. Write a full letter? Perish the thought. My kids and their friends can't explain why. It's just what they do. What do they fear about real human interaction???

I guess I am just hopelessly old school. Since you are decrying loudly such "addictions" and moaning the loss of face to face contact, please organise a bloggers meet. Obviously it has to be in the rainy state since three of the four are there. I would appreciate a flight ticket in the post :)Rameshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11782192840421019943noreply@blogger.com
